My client is an established Electrical Contractor and an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) business, offering long-term employees the opportunity to share in the future success and profitability of the company. They are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to take commercial ownership of electrical fit-out projects from pre-construction through to final account, ensuring projects are delivered profitably while maintaining strong commercial control and contractual compliance.

The role requires a commercially astute Quantity Surveyor who can manage cost planning, valuations, variations, subcontractor accounts, procurement support, reporting, and final accounts to the high standards expected by my client. This is a key commercial role within the business and requires someone who is organised, detail-oriented, commercially aware, and confident liaising with clients, main contractors, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal delivery teams.

Key Responsibilities – Commercial Management

  • Take full commercial ownership of assigned projects from tender handover through to final account settlement.
  • Review all handover information from Pre-Construction, Design, Procurement, and Project Delivery teams.
  • Understand project scope, cost plans, contract terms, risks, exclusions, and client requirements.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cash flow reports.
  • Measure and value works completed on-site.
  • Prepare, submit, and negotiate interim valuations and final accounts.
  • Identify, price, and manage variations, ensuring all changes are captured and agreed.
  • Procure and commercially manage subcontractor packages, including payments and final accounts.
  • Monitor project costs and profitability, identifying risks and opportunities throughout the lifecycle of the project.
  • Support Project Managers with commercial advice and cost control.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and maintain accurate project documentation.
  • Attend client and commercial meetings where required.

Required Experience

  • 3–5 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally within the electrical contracting or M&E sector.
  • Experience managing commercial aspects of electrical projects within commercial fit-out, refurbishment, or construction environments.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, valuations, variations, and final accounts.
  • Good technical understanding of electrical installations and project delivery.
  • Experience managing subcontractor accounts and procurement processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and programmes.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen.
  • Experience dealing with clients, main contractors, and consultants.
  • Excellent organisational, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
  • A proactive and solution-focused approach to commercial management.
