Sub-Committee Recruitment

LEATHERMARKET JMB is Southwark’s largest resident-led housing organisation and the UK's only self-financing one, running 1500 homes between London Bridge and Tower Bridge. The organisation is managed by professionals and residents who live in the area, represented on the Board. This year we are celebrating our 30-year anniversary, and we are committed to staying true to our community-based roots and origin. To sustain our organisation for another 30 years and beyond, we need to be 'fit for the future'. We are in a dynamic and fast-moving place and have embarked on a major refresh - transformation - of the organisation. This has already led to great improvements, and now we are looking for subcommittee members with a commitment to civic leadership.

We are seeking to further enrich the committees that report to the board with specific skills and a desire to drive continuous improvement. We are looking for seasoned subject matter experts to join our subcommittees; ideally, you will be social housing professionals or have lived experience. Housing organisations are facing immense challenges at this time, and we want people who are passionate about local service provision. We work hand in hand with residents on a daily basis to improve and provide much-needed support to local people in a real and tangible way.

The range of knowledge, skills, and expertise we are looking for includes:

  • Asset management and repairs
  • Sustainability - ESG
  • Finance
  • Building safety and compliance
  • Growth strategies and funding and cost optimisation
  • HR and Culture/ EDI
  • Community development and partnership working

The commitment is approximately 4 meetings a year and an away-day. These roles are not remunerated, but we will reimburse expenses and provide training in other relevant areas of interest. This is an opportunity to work with a truly resident-centred organisation in the very heart of London, and if appointed, we can guarantee that you will be actively engaged. Residents are the reason we are here.
