Position overview
The Mechatronic Engineer will drive activities within Lear’s regional Innovation Hub under the umbrella of the companies EU & Africa Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering team. This is a unique opportunity for a Mechatronic Engineer to work closely with Subject Matter Experts from Manufacturing, Logistics, Quality and IT departments as well as dedicated Innovation / Project Engineers to drive the concept and lead the delivery of applied technologies / Industry 4.0 initiatives into Lear’s regional operation. The ideal candidate will have a background in manufacturing innovation through technology and processes, with a focus on integrating and deploying advanced technologies to drive efficiency, quality, and productivity in manufacturing operations. This is a hands‑on, lab‑based position, ideal for someone who loves practical problem‑solving, experimentation, and engineering craftsmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- System Design & Integration: Develop and integrate mechanical, electronic, and software components into functional robotic systems. Design control systems for automation and feedback loops.
- Automation Development and testing: Advance prototype systems into scalable solutions ready for industrialisation. Program PLCs and industrial automation systems. Implement robotic workflows. Build and test robotic prototypes using microcontrollers, sensors, actuators and embedded systems. Conduct simulations and validate performance using modelling tools. Identify and assess technologies on emerging robotics platforms, sensors and automation tools. Encourage continuous learning and stay updated with the latest technological advancements.
- Compliance and Security: Ensure all solutions comply with company and industry standards, regulations, and security protocols including proper documentation and intellectual property protection.
- Collaboration and Innovation: Work closely with the team to co‑develop intelligent products and contribute to ideation, feasibility studies and technical workshops.
Key skills and Qualifications
- Confidence in presenting and interfacing with senior stakeholders from multi-cultural backgrounds and functional disciplines.
- Willingness and flexibility to occasionally travel within the role to support the deployment of developed initiatives.
- Systems Integration: Ability to integrate various systems and technologies.
- Analytical and critical thinking: Strong analytical skills to understand business processes and requirements.
- 3+ years of experience of operating within an Innovation environment working to develop and deploy automated initiatives into manufacturing.
- Ideally a Masters in a related engineering / technical field although Bachelor’s degree with relevant work experience may be considered.
- Excellent communication skills with an ability and willingness to work cross functionally with multidisciplinary teams.
- Fluency in English language both written and verbal.
