Supporting a high-volume finance department, this role combines operational oversight, team supervision and day-to-day accounting responsibilities. You'll be instrumental in maintaining service standards, managing workloads and ensuring deadlines are consistently achieved.
Duties for this role include, but are not limited to:
- Supervising the day-to-day activities of the payables team.
- Monitoring workloads and ensuring tasks are completed accurately and within deadlines.
- Supporting the processing of invoices, payments and creditor transactions.
- Reconciling payables ledgers and resolving discrepancies.
- Assisting with month-end accounting and reporting activities.
- Supporting procurement and purchase order processes.
- Monitoring creditor balances and managing supplier relationships.
- Assisting with audit preparation and responding to audit queries.
- Producing reports, reconciliations and management information.
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls and efficiencies.
- Providing training, guidance and support to junior team members.
- Supporting wider finance projects and operational initiatives.
Skills / Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have previous experience within accounts payable, finance administration or a similar accounting environment, although direct payables experience is not essential if they possess strong supervisory capability and a practical, hands-on approach. They will be highly organised, proactive and comfortable managing a busy workload while overseeing the work of others. Strong communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to resolve issues quickly and effectively are essential. The successful candidate will enjoy supporting and developing team members, be confident working within a high-volume environment and demonstrate the common sense and leadership qualities needed to keep the function running smoothly. Experience with accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications would be advantageous.
