Our client is seeking a proactive and compassionate Animal Care Supervisor to help lead the daily operations of a busy animal shelter. From mentoring staff and volunteers to ensuring the highest standards of care, you'll play a vital role in creating positive outcomes for both animals and the wider community.

Duties for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of the animal care team, volunteers and placements, providing guidance, training and support.
  • Ensure the highest standards of animal care, including feeding, cleaning, exercising and monitoring the health and wellbeing of animals.
  • Assist with the assessment, admission, rehabilitation and rehoming of animals.
  • Administer medication and support veterinary treatment plans in accordance with professional guidance.
  • Monitor animal welfare, identifying concerns and escalating cases requiring veterinary attention.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control throughout the shelter.
  • Oversee stock levels of food, medication, equipment and cleaning supplies.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed by staff, volunteers and visitors.
  • Support the secure operation and maintenance of the shelter, buildings and equipment.
  • Assist members of the public with enquiries, providing advice and excellent customer service.
  • Support fundraising activities, educational visits and community engagement initiatives.
  • Provide management cover when required and participate in an out-of-hours rota to support the shelter's 24-hour operation.

Skills / Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have experience working with animals and previous supervisory or leadership experience within an animal care or similar environment. You'll be confident leading and motivating others while maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and customer service. You'll possess excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills, be physically fit and resilient in emotionally demanding situations, and be comfortable working in a hands-on environment. Experience administering medication, animal first aid and working with a variety of animal species would be advantageous, while a full driving licence and the flexibility to work weekends, unsociable hours and emergency situations are essential.
