A newly created leadership opportunity has arisen within a well-established local charity supporting animal welfare and community outreach across Guernsey. Working closely with senior management, this role will help oversee the day-to-day operations of a busy animal shelter while supporting staff, volunteers and operational activities.

Duties for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the day-to-day operational management of a busy animal shelter.
  • Assisting with team management, rota organisation and staff supervision.
  • Supporting recruitment, probation reviews and staff development activities.
  • Maintaining attendance, training and payroll-related records.
  • Assisting with volunteer coordination and placement programmes.
  • Supporting Health & Safety, HR and operational compliance activities.
  • Assisting with budgeting, reporting and operational planning where required.
  • Supporting animal welfare, rehabilitation and adoption activities.
  • Assisting with site management, maintenance coordination and operational projects.
  • Supporting outreach, education and community engagement initiatives.
  • Deputising for senior management when required.

Skills / Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have previous supervisory or people management experience and demonstrate strong leadership, organisational and communication skills. They will be confident managing teams, prioritising workload and supporting operational activities within a busy environment. Experience within HR, administration or operational management would be advantageous, alongside strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. An interest in animal welfare is desirable, although previous animal care experience is not essential. The successful individual will be resilient, adaptable and capable of working professionally within a fast-paced and emotionally demanding environment.
