Leader Education are proud to be recruiting a SEND Learning Support Assistant to join a small, supportive secondary special school in Sunderland. This is a fantastic long-term opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people with additional needs. The school supports students aged 11–19 years with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). It is a warm, nurturing and inclusive special academy that places a strong emphasis on meeting the individual needs of every student and their families. Recently rated β€œGood” by Ofsted, the school is recognised for its caring environment and commitment to student wellbeing and progress.

About the role:

  • Full-time, long-term position following a successful trial
  • Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
  • Supporting pupils to access the curriculum and fully engage in classroom activities
  • Providing tailored support to help students develop confidence, independence and life skills

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have some experience supporting children or young people with SEND (desirable, not essential)
  • Be compassionate, patient and committed to inclusivity and respect
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Show a good understanding of a range of SEND, or a willingness to learn
  • Understand the importance of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Hold an enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one
