Leader Education are recruiting a Learning Support Assistant to join a SEND school in South Tyneside. The school provides excellent support for pupils aged 2-19 and their families. Many of the young people have severe learning difficulties and complex or profound needs, so experience in a similar setting is essential. The school prides itself on a positive, welcoming atmosphere, where pupils engage in learning at their own levels, supported by a dedicated multidisciplinary team. Students leave with the skills to access the adult world confidently and independently. The normal working pattern is Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 3:30, and this is a long-term position.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a fully enhanced DBS on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
  • Have experience working with SEND or vulnerable groups
  • Assist pupils in lessons and activities
  • Be flexible and resilient, meeting the diverse needs of students
  • Work effectively with parents, carers, and other members of multidisciplinary teams to provide the best support
  • Be confident in working alongside students, ensuring they are fully supported within their learning and general classroom activities
  • Possess communication skills that can be personalised to suit students of different abilities
