Leader Education are recruiting for a SEND Classroom Assistant to work at a small SEND school based near Amble. This school caters for children aged 2 to 19 years old with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Social Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). This role will involve working 1:1 with children or in small groups. This school celebrates itself on providing a meaningful and fun curriculum that engages all children.
The ideal SEND Classroom Assistant will have some experience working with SEND children as well as a genuine interest and passion for education. The normal working pattern is Monday to Friday 8:30 to 3:30pm and is a long-term position given a successful trial.
The successful candidate will have:
- An enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to support the pupil in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities
- A compassionate, understanding personality that values inclusivity and respect
- Some experience supporting students with SEND in an education setting is desirable
- An understanding of safeguarding and ensuring the well-being of children
- A good understanding of children who have SLD
