Leader Education is delighted to be working with a specialist all-age SEND provision in Peterlee, who are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join their team. This is a rewarding long-term opportunity for someone who genuinely wants to support children and young people with additional needs and help them develop both academically and emotionally. The school supports learners across a wide age range, offering a highly personalised curriculum designed to meet individual needs. The provision places strong emphasis on nurture, inclusion and positive relationships, creating a safe and supportive environment where pupils are encouraged to build confidence, resilience and independence.
The role:
- Full-time, long-term position, with the opportunity to become permanent following a successful trial
- Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm
- Supporting pupils with SEND and SEMH needs throughout the school day
- Helping learners access lessons and engage positively with learning
- Promoting emotional regulation, positive behaviour and wellbeing
- Working closely with teaching staff and the wider support team
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has an understanding of SEND and/or SEMH needs and the barriers learners may face
- Is calm, empathetic and resilient, with a child-centred approach
- Communicates effectively and builds strong, trusting relationships
- Can support pupils both emotionally and academically
- Has experience working with children or young people (desirable but not essential)
- Holds an enhanced DBS on the update service or is willing to apply for one
