Leader Education are recruiting a Mental Health/Behaviour Support Classroom Assistant to work at a school in South Shields specialising in supporting students aged 5-16 years old with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Students in this school may have been permanently excluded from their past school and may present some challenging behaviours so the ideal candidate will have some experience working alongside children with SEMH needs and behavioural problems. This school emphasises on motivating their students to ensure an engaging curriculum and a successful transition into the next stage of their lives.

The latest Ofsted report for this school was rated "Good" with them continuing to deliver an inspiring curriculum and school environment for students' underlying needs. The normal working pattern is Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30pm and is a long-term position, given a successful trial.

The successful candidate will have:

  • An enhanced DBS or be willing to obtain one
  • Some experience with children or young people that exhibit Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) or students that present challenging behaviour
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, compassionate personality and the ability to support the students in accessing the curriculum and classroom activities
  • A great understanding of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children
  • Adaptability and a commitment to meeting the diverse needs of students.
