Leader Education are pleased to be recruiting a Mental Health Learning Support Assistant to join a small, successful SEND school based in Harrogate. This is a fulfilling long-term opportunity for someone passionate about supporting the mental health, wellbeing and learning of children and young people with additional needs. The school supports pupils aged 2-19 years with PMLD, ASC and elements of challenging behaviour, and is proud of its nurturing, inclusive and progressive approach. Recently rated Good by Ofsted, the school is recognised as a warm and welcoming environment where students feel safe, supported and able to thrive.
The role:
- Long-term position following a successful trial day
- Working hours: 8:45am - 3:45pm
- Providing emotional, behavioural and learning support to pupils with SEND
- Working closely with teachers and other professionals to promote positive mental health and engagement
The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience supporting children or young people with SEND and/or mental health needs
- Be compassionate, patient and resilient
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Have a strong understanding of safeguarding and child welfare
- Hold a Psychology, Mental Health or related qualification (desirable)
- Be familiar with, or keen to learn about, tailored interventions to support pupils with PMLD, ASC and challenging behaviour
- Hold an enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one
