Reporting directly to the Depot Team Leader, as a Delivery Vehicle Driver you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods and materials to designated locations. The role involves operating various types of vehicles, ensuring compliance with traffic laws, maintaining the vehicle in good condition, and providing excellent customer service at all times. Key Responsibilities

  • Driving and Navigation
    • Operate vehicle to transport goods to specified destinations in line with schedules.
    • Follow planned routes and adhere to schedules.
    • Use navigation systems to optimise travel routes and avoid traffic delays.
  • Safety and Compliance
    • Adhere to all road safety and traffic regulations and always drive the vehicle in line with statutory and legislative regulations.
    • Conduct daily vehicle checks and report any maintenance or delivery issues in a timely fashion.
    • Ensure the safety of passengers and goods during transit.
    • Ensure the Health and Safety of you and others by carrying out all activities in a manner that promotes safety.
    • Accurate loading, unloading and delivering orders to customers OTIF.
    • Ensure products are packed safely and secured with straps etc., so as not to be damaged in transit.
    • Use driving App and ensure compliance to all required driving standards and maintain compliance with telematics and driving rules.
    • Heavy lifting, moving, protecting, wrapping, and managing all products with all due care and attention.
    • Use equipment respectfully, safely and as trained including vehicles, phones, computers.
    • Use phones for work matters only and when legally safe to do so.
  • Vehicle Maintenance
    • Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as checking oil, water, tyres and lights.
    • Keep the vehicle clean and well-maintained and smoke free; smoking is not permitted in vehicles.
    • Inform the Depot Team Leader of any servicing requirements and repairs.
    • Report any issues, vehicle defects or delivery problems daily in a timely fashion.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping
    • Accurately checking and verifying all stock is correct on your vehicle for each order.
    • Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel consumption and any incidents or accidents.
    • Complete delivery or transport paperwork and obtain necessary signatures.
    • Receipt and despatch all orders accurately and securely in line with Leader's SOPs.
  • Customer Service
    • Provide a courteous and professional service to customers at all times.
    • Always show dignity and respect with customers, colleagues, drivers and visitors.
  • Company Objectives
    • Supporting all other areas of the business as and when required including working in the warehouse.
    • Participate actively in continuous process improvement projects, seek ways to develop and maximise customer service levels.
    • Ensure all business and individual key performance indicators are met.
    • Contribute actively to achieving departmental service level and targets.

Requirements

  • Valid UK driving licence appropriate for the vehicle type (e.g., Category B for cars, Category C for lorries).
  • Hold a clean driving record.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK road networks and traffic laws and familiarity with using GPS and other navigation tools.
  • Basic mechanical skills for vehicle checks and minor repairs.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Flexibility working an average of 45 hours per week.
