Overview
Teaching Assistant (Special Educational Needs) at a large SEND school in Kirklees. This long-term contract supports students aged 4–19 with complex needs and learning disabilities. The role often involves working on a 1:1 basis with SEND pupils. The normal working pattern is Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm.
Location: Kirklees, West Yorkshire. Contract Type: Long Term. Competitive pay based on skills and experience; details discussed with your recruiter.
Responsibilities
- Support children and young people with SEND on a 1:1 basis and in small group settings as required.
- Assist with the welfare, safeguarding and well-being of pupils in line with school policies.
- Demonstrate a compassionate and patient approach to supporting students with complex needs.
- Communicate effectively with pupils, parents and colleagues; build positive relationships to support learning.
- Be flexible and adaptable to changing needs of students and the school, including managing behaviour where appropriate.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience working with children or young people, particularly those with challenging behaviour or additional needs, is preferred.
- Ability to establish rapport and communicate clearly with students and staff.
- A commitment to safeguarding and welfare of children and young people.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development; CPD opportunities available, including Team Teach.
