Leader Education are recruiting a dedicated Functional Skills Teacher to work across Alternative Provisions in Greater Manchester. This role focuses on supporting students who may have experienced barriers to learning in mainstream education, helping them develop essential English and Maths skills for future education, employment and life. As a Functional Skills Teacher, you will deliver engaging and accessible lessons tailored to students with SEND and SEMH needs, helping them build confidence, independence and practical skills in a supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging Functional Skills lessons in English and Maths.
  • Adapt teaching methods to support students with SEND and SEMH needs.
  • Deliver lessons to small classes or targeted intervention groups.
  • Support students who may have experienced barriers to learning or disengagement from education.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and engagement with learning.
  • Monitor and track student progress towards Functional Skills qualifications.
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, pastoral staff and SENCOs.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification is desirable.
  • Experience delivering Functional Skills, English or Maths.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH, SEND or within alternative provision is beneficial.
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate students who may have struggled in traditional education settings.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
