Purpose of the Role

We are seeking passionate and skilled Design & Technology and English Teachers to deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching for pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviours. You will model professional integrity, work collaboratively within the school community, and promote a safe, respectful, and nurturing learning environment where pupils can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

This is a small specialist SEMH school catering to pupils aged 11–19, many with Autism and additional SEND needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, evidence-informed lessons in Design & Technology or English
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of pupils, including those with SEND and trauma histories
  • Use assessment data to monitor progress and inform planning
  • Promote pupils’ social, emotional, and academic development through therapeutic approaches
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour and learning
  • Collaborate with teaching assistants and specialist staff to provide effective support

The Successful Candidate Will:

  • Hold QTS or QTLS
  • Have proven experience teaching pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviour
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of curriculum, assessment, and behaviour management in special education
  • Be able to plan, deliver, and assess effective teaching and learning
  • Show resilience, empathy, adaptability, and a passion for supporting vulnerable pupils
  • Commit to professional conduct, safeguarding, and inclusive practice
