PMLD Teaching Assistant – Specialist SEND School, Wakefield

Temporary role with potential to become permanent. Support children with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and make a real difference! Leader Education are seeking compassionate and adaptable PMLD Teaching Assistants to join a specialist SEND school in Wakefield. The school supports pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, including complex physical, medical, and sensory needs. This is a hands-on, rewarding role where you will work closely with pupils throughout the school day, helping them access learning, develop independence, and engage with their environment. Support may involve 1:1 assistance, small group work, personal care, and use of specialist equipment, depending on the needs of each child. These positions are temporary initially, with a real opportunity to move into a permanent role for candidates who demonstrate commitment, reliability, and a strong fit within the school.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with PMLD
  • Assist with personal care, mobility, and daily routines as required
  • Support pupils to engage in learning, develop life skills, and participate in sensory activities

  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure holistic development

Who We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience with PMLD or complex SEND is desirable but not essential
  • Patient, empathetic, adaptable, and committed to supporting children with additional needs
