Leader Education are recruiting a dedicated SEN Teacher to join a small, nurturing Secondary special school in Sunderland. The school supports young people aged 11–19 with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and delivers learning through a primary-level curriculum tailored to individual developmental needs rather than chronological age. This warm and welcoming academy was recently graded “Good” by Ofsted, reflecting its commitment to meeting the unique needs of every student and their families.
This is a long‑term position, Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm, following a successful trial.
The Successful SEN Teacher Will Have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or relevant recognised teaching qualification
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to plan, deliver, and adapt lessons within a primary‑level curriculum framework
- A secure understanding of a range of SEND including SLD, PMLD and associated needs
- The ability to work collaboratively with support staff, therapists, and families
- A compassionate, child‑centred approach demonstrating values of inclusion, respect, and patience
- Experience working within a SEND or specialist provision is desirable
