Based in South Tyneside, Monday to Friday | 8:30am – 4:00pm. Long-term Temporary Position.

Leader Education are currently recruiting for a compassionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic SEND Support Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in South Tyneside. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of children and young people aged 2–19 with severe learning difficulties, including pupils with complex and profound needs. The school prides itself on being a “nurturing, educational and therapeutic community,” where every child is supported to achieve their full potential in a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment. Staff work closely together to provide tailored support that promotes confidence, independence, communication, and personal development.

The role:

As a SEND Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom. You will help deliver personalised learning activities, encourage positive behaviour, and support students with their emotional, social, and educational development.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils with a range of additional needs on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Assisting teachers in delivering engaging and personalised learning activities
  • Supporting communication, social interaction, and emotional wellbeing
  • Encouraging independence and the development of essential life skills
  • Assisting with personal care and mobility needs where required (full training provided)
  • Creating a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment for all pupils

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is patient, empathetic, and resilient
  • Has a genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs
  • Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with staff and pupils
  • Can remain calm and positive in challenging situations
  • Has experience within education, care, support work, or SEND settings (desirable but not essential)
