Leader Education is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work within a secondary school in Gateshead! This position focuses on supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, so applicants must be patient, resilient, and confident in managing challenging behaviour and a range of additional needs. The school provides a supportive and nurturing environment and its ethos is built around the values of respect, integrity, compassion, honesty, and trust, which are woven into both the curriculum and day-to-day student support.
Working hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm, with extended hours where necessary.
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold an enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to apply for one
- Have experience in a relevant or transferable role
- Have previous experience supporting vulnerable individuals with healthcare plans
- Demonstrate an understanding of SEMH needs and associated behaviours
- Be confident supporting students in lessons and during general classroom activities
- Communicate effectively with students in both group settings and on a one-to-one basis
- Promote positive behaviour and help build students’ confidence
