Small, nurturing SEMH School

Make a difference every day. Inspire, support and empower young people to reach their potential.

We’re looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our small, supportive team at a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Scunthorpe. If you’re passionate about helping children and young people with additional needs succeed — both academically and personally — we’d love to hear from you.

About The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting pupils with SEMH and other additional needs such as ASD, ADHD, and communication difficulties. Working closely with teachers and therapists, you’ll help create a calm, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where every child feels safe, valued, and inspired to learn.

Your Day Might Include

  • Supporting individual or small groups of pupils in lessons and enrichment activities
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation through empathy and consistency
  • Helping to plan and deliver creative learning experiences that build confidence and resilience
  • Tracking progress and celebrating every small success
  • Working collaboratively with staff, parents, and external professionals

What We’re Looking For

  • A genuine passion for working with children and young people with additional needs
  • Experience in an SEN or SEMH setting (school, youth work, or similar)
  • Level 3 TA qualification (or willingness to work towards one)
  • Patience, empathy, and a sense of humour — essential!
  • The ability to stay calm and positive, even on the challenging days

What’s in It for You

  • Competitive salary and enhanced pay scales based on experience
  • Fully funded training and professional development opportunities
  • NEST enhanced pension scheme
  • Employee wellbeing support, including a wellbeing app and access to counselling
  • Staff referral bonus – earn up to £500 when you refer a friend
  • Blue Light Card and exclusive staff discounts
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay
  • Life assurance for extra peace of mind

Why Join Us?

Our school is a place where every voice matters and every success counts. We pride ourselves on our family-like environment, where teamwork, humour, and mutual respect make every day rewarding.
