Leader Education are recruiting a Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Durham. The school supports children and young people aged 2–19 across two dedicated sites, providing tailored education from early years through to sixth form. The provision ensures that every pupil receives the individual support and guidance they need throughout their educational journey. The school works closely with students with autism, complex learning difficulties, and a wide range of additional needs, delivering personalised learning experiences designed to help each young person thrive. Staff are dedicated to creating a positive and supportive environment where pupils are encouraged to build confidence, develop essential life skills, and achieve their full potential both academically and personally.

This opportunity would suit graduates looking to begin a career in education, experienced support staff, or individuals with transferable skills who are passionate about supporting young people and making a meaningful difference each day. This is a long‑term position, subject to a successful trial day, with working hours of Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm. The successful candidate will:

  • Have a fully enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one
  • Have experience working in a transferable role
  • Follow personalised curriculum's and care plans to meet pupil's requirements
  • Work with pupils on both a 1:1 basis and in group settings, communicating effectively
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of the curriculum through lesson planning and delivery
  • Set up lessons, equipment and activities within the classrooms
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists and other teams to create a holistic supportive environment for pupils
