Leader Education are excited to be recruiting a Mental Health Support Assistant to join a dedicated team within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Walker, Newcastle. This setting supports pupils from Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 4 who may have experienced barriers to learning, including those at risk of exclusion or who have struggled in mainstream education.
This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support young people who need additional guidance, structure, and emotional support to re‑engage with education and build positive pathways for the future. Working within a supportive and inclusive environment, you will play a key role in helping pupils develop confidence, emotional resilience and self‑regulation skills.
Key Responsibilities- Provide consistent emotional support to pupils, helping them feel safe, understood and supported
- Work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to deliver targeted 1:1 and small group interventions
- Support pupils in developing positive behaviour strategies and emotional regulation skills
- Build trusting relationships that encourage confidence and engagement in learning
- Promote positive participation in school life and support reintegration into learning activities
- Remain calm and professional when managing challenging behaviour, using de‑escalation strategies effectively
