Leader Education are pleased to be recruiting a Mental Health Learning Support Assistant to join a small, successful SEND school based in Harrogate. This is a long-term opportunity for someone passionate about supporting the mental health, wellbeing and learning of children and young people with additional needs.
The school supports pupils aged 2–19 years with PMLD, ASC and elements of challenging behaviour, and is proud of its nurturing, inclusive and progressive approach. Recently rated “Good” by Ofsted, the school is recognised as a warm and welcoming environment where students feel safe, supported and able to thrive.
The Role
- Long-term position following a successful trial day
- Working hours: 8:45am – 3:45pm
- Providing emotional, behavioural and learning support to pupils with SEND
- Working closely with teachers and other professionals to promote positive mental health and engagement
The Ideal Candidate Will
- Have experience supporting children or young people with SEND and/or mental health needs
- Be compassionate, patient and resilient
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Have a strong understanding of safeguarding and child welfare
- Hold a Psychology, Mental Health or related qualification (desirable)
- Be familiar with, or keen to learn about, tailored interventions to support pupils with PMLD, ASC and challenging behaviour
- Hold an enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one
