Leader Education are looking to recruit a Learning Support Assistant for an alternative provision based in Gateshead. This role involves supporting students in Years 7–11 who are currently outside of mainstream education due to social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, behavioural difficulties, additional needs and in some cases unidentified special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). You will play an important role in helping young people reconnect with education, build self-confidence, and make progress both academically and personally.
The provision has a strong focus on wellbeing, with students benefiting from dedicated in‑house mental health support and a nurturing environment designed to encourage positive development. Committed to achieving the best outcomes for every student, the team works closely with young people to support reintegration into mainstream education where appropriate, while also helping them explore alternative pathways suited to their individual strengths, interests, and future goals.
The normal working pattern is Monday‑Friday 8:30 until 15:30 and is a long‑term position.
The Successful Candidate Will:
- Have a fully enhanced DBS on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
- Be able to work alongside pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
- Work with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in a group setting, communicating effectively
- Work effectively with parents, carers, and other members of multidisciplinary teams to provide the best support
- Be flexible and resilient
- Possess communication skills that can be personalised to suit students of different abilities
- Possess good classroom skills
