Leader Education are recruiting a Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Gateshead, supporting students aged 8–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a real difference to young people who may have experienced challenges in mainstream education. The school places a strong emphasis on motivation, engagement and positive relationships, providing a nurturing environment and an inspiring curriculum. The most recent Ofsted inspection rated the school “Good”, recognising its continued commitment to meeting students’ individual needs. Students at this school may have been permanently excluded from previous settings and can present with challenging behaviours, so the ideal candidate will have experience working with children with SEMH needs or behavioural difficulties and a calm, compassionate approach.
The role:
- Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm
- Long-term position, with the potential to become permanent following a successful trial
The Successful Candidate Will Have:
- An enhanced DBS or be willing to obtain one
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A patient, compassionate personality and the ability to support students in accessing the curriculum
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare
- Adaptability and a commitment to meeting the diverse needs of students
