LEEP is seeking a Research Consultant to refine and update our cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA), the public model we maintain to make transparent, evidence-based decisions about where to focus our resources. The work is a focused refinement of the existing model, alongside a small number of high-priority research questions on the burden and prevalence of lead exposure in low- and middle-income countries. This role offers the opportunity to shape the evidence base behind LEEP’s resource allocation decisions, with the reasoning published in our public CEA explainers. You will be updating LEEP’s existing model rather than building a new one, and final assumption choices rest with LEEP.
Key Responsibilities
- Model Updating
- Update the model with current internal program and cost data
- Strengthen economic and demographic inputs, including population growth, urbanisation, beneficiary cohorts, and currency and cost-of-living adjustments
- Produce updated CEA model components using the best available assumptions and the latest cost data
- Research & Analysis
- Run short, prioritised deep dives into a small number of high-uncertainty, high-stakes assumptions (e.g., industry compliance costs, updated burden-of-disease data, counterfactual attribution, paint’s contribution to blood lead levels)
- Prioritise these deep dives only where uncertainty is high, material to the result, and plausibly resolvable through further research
- Address high-priority research questions on estimating the burden and prevalence of lead exposure in low- and middle-income countries
- Reporting & Communications
- Write a rationale for each material change, suitable for LEEP’s public CEA explainers
- Draft content for a blog post announcing the update
What We’re Looking For
A successful applicant will possess most of the following:
- Experience with cost-effectiveness analysis or similar quantitative public health or economic research
- A quantitative degree (economics, public health, statistics, or a related field)
- High attention to detail, and the judgement to distinguish what matters more from what matters less
- Comfortable working independently with limited day-to-day oversight
- Good judgement on prioritisation, with an ability to make sensible calls on where to spend limited time across competing research threads
