A growing environmental consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior Ecologist to support an expanding pipeline of projects across the UK. The role sits within a multidisciplinary team working across ecology, landscape, heritage and planning, supporting a broad client base including developers, land promoters and public sector bodies. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering ecological input across a range of developments including residential schemes, infrastructure projects, renewable energy and strategic land promotion.
THE ROLE
The Senior Ecologist role will involve leading and delivering ecological work across all project stages, from early feasibility through to planning and post-consent support. Responsibilities include:
- Leading ecological surveys, assessments and reporting
- Managing EcIA and biodiversity-focused deliverables
- Advising clients on mitigation strategies and biodiversity enhancements
- Supporting project teams to navigate planning and environmental constraints
- Mentoring junior team members and contributing to team development
- Liaising with clients, stakeholders and planning authorities
- Contributing to project management, including budgets and timelines
The role requires a balance between technical ecological expertise and commercial awareness, ensuring practical and deliverable outcomes for clients.
SENIOR ECOLOGIST REQUIREMENTS
- A degree in Ecology or closely related subject
- Membership of CIEEM
- Protected species licence(s)
- Experience working within a consultancy environment
- Strong understanding of UK planning policy and ecological legislation
- Proven experience delivering EcIA and associated reports
- Strong report writing and communication skills
- Ability to manage projects and support junior staff
