An established ecology consultancy based in Derbyshire is looking to appoint a Senior or Principal Ecologist to join its growing team. The role would suit someone looking for a good mix of field work, project management and technical reporting, working across a broad range of ecology projects throughout the UK.

The practice supports a wide variety of clients including developers, planners, architects, engineers and private clients, with projects ranging from smaller local instructions through to larger infrastructure and planning related schemes. Typical work includes protected species surveys, habitat and botanical surveys, Biodiversity Net Gain work, Ecological Impact Assessments, licensing and ecological support for planning applications.

The Senior/Principal Ecologist role will involve:

  • Managing ecology projects from survey stage through to reporting
  • Carrying out protected species, habitat and botanical surveys
  • Preparing technical reports and supporting planning applications
  • Managing client relationships and project communication
  • Supporting and mentoring junior ecologists within the team
  • Assisting with Biodiversity Net Gain and EcIA work
  • Working closely with planners, developers and multidisciplinary teams

Senior Ecologist qualifications and key skills:

  • Degree in ecology or closely related subject
  • Previous experience at senior level
  • Protected species licence(s)
  • Membership of CIEEM
  • EcIA and planning related ecology experience
  • Biodiversity Net Gain work experience
  • Habitat and botanical surveys
  • Excellent technical reporting writing skills
  • Demonstrable project management experience
  • Client liaison and communication skills
  • The ability to mentor junior staff members
