Keep a much-loved property running beautifully, inside and out.
The Old Bridge is looking for a skilled, hands-on Maintenance Operative to join the team. This role covers the full range of single-site maintenance you'd expect, plus two things that make it a bit different: you'll take on gardening and grounds work as part of your day-to-day, and you'll occasionally travel to support other Chestnut properties with ad hoc projects and maintenance needs.
You'll be the person who keeps the building and grounds in great shape, fully operational and looking its best for our guests, working proactively and carrying out reactive repairs.
What you'll be doing
- Carrying out general maintenance and repairs to internal and external fabric, fixtures and fittings
- Handling plumbing, drainage, minor electrical and equipment repairs, carpentry, painting and decorating
- Grounds and garden work: car park, lawns, hedging, paving, boundary walls and gates, planting and outbuilding maintenance
- Carrying out regular checks of systems, equipment, services and buildings
- Liaising with external specialist contractors and engineers for planned servicing and repairs.
- Supporting maintenance tasks and minor projects at other Chestnut properties as required
- Proactively planning and delivering maintenance works, finding quality, durable and cost-effective solutions
What we're looking for
- At least 3 years' multi-skilled maintenance experience in commercial, hospitality or retail settings, single site or multi-site
- Handy person skills across general maintenance, minor plumbing and electrics, carpentry, painting and decorating, and grounds work
- Practical working knowledge of health and safety and compliance
- A full driving licence
- Computer literacy, comfortable using maintenance log systems, email, purchasing and other apps
- Your own tools for most tasks
- A customer and guest-centric approach, with good communication skills
- Awareness of listed building considerations is a plus
What's in it for you
- Flexible hours, with occasional out-of-hours or weekend work
- Being part of a friendly, supportive team, with the chance to connect with staff across other Chestnut properties
- Food and room discounts with friends
- Access to the Chestnut Hub, hundreds of high street discounts
- Employee Assistance Programme, Refer a Friend bonus (up to Β£1,500)
- Wagestream access
