The Deputy Medical Director is a senior clinical leader within LCW's Clinical Leadership and Governance function. The role is responsible for quality, safety, performance and transformation across GP practices and Urgent Treatment Centres.
Main duties of the job include:
- Providing senior medical leadership across LCW GP practices and Urgent Treatment Centres, ensuring services are safe, compliant and aligned with commissioner and organisational priorities.
- Overseeing clinical governance, safeguarding, medicines management, risk and incident management, and supporting the delivery of QOF, Enhanced Services, and PCN/ICB requirements through innovation, strong quality assurance and workforce development.
- Maintaining clinical sessions to deliver high-quality, innovative care while driving cultural change, cost efficiency, and service.
- Supporting UCC clinical leads and strengthening PCN and neighbourhood partnerships.
- Supporting LCW's strategic goal of expanding and modernising primary care provision.

Job responsibilities include:
- Acting as a senior member of LCW's Clinical Leadership and Governance structure.
- Deputising for the Medical Director internally and externally as required.
- Participating in the clinical on-call rota, maintaining familiarity with EPRR processes, and attending EPRR training and exercises.
- Providing senior clinical input into safety alert dissemination and public health incidents and outbreaks.
- Providing real-time senior clinical leadership during Serious Incidents.
- Ensuring safeguarding policies and SOPs are implemented consistently in operational settings.
- Holding senior clinical accountability for medicines management within GP surgeries and UTCs.
- Providing oversight of patient flow, streaming, and redirection.
- Providing senior clinical leadership for complaints relating to GP and UTC services.
- Supporting recruitment, onboarding, and clinical induction of GPs, trainees and senior clinicians.
- Acting as a Freedom to Speak Up (FTSU) Champion.
- Providing senior clinical leadership for transformation and digital delivery across GP and UTC services.
Main Conditions of Service include:

- All staff must ensure that waste produced within LCWUCC is disposed of in ways that control risks to health and safety.
Person Specification includes:
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both written and verbally.
- Good organisational skills and able to work under pressure.
- Committed to quality and patient satisfaction.
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree and full registration with GMC.
- Experience of working in primary care in an area with significant health problems.
- Understanding current NHS policies.
