Employer Bio: Established in 1928 by Elanor Rathbone, this charity was the first older adult focused charity in the world. Since their conception, Age Concern Liverpool & Sefton’s (ACLS) mission has been to protect and promote the well-being of people over 50 years of age in the area. With nearly 100 years’ experience working with older adults in Liverpool & Sefton, they are experts in understanding the needs of our community and delivering impactful services.
Their services include: befriending and re-ablement, a Mental Health Support Service, friendship services, an Activity Programme operating from their activity room and at locations across the city, a telephone service for any query or concern raised by an older person, relative, neighbour, professional or other VCSE partner and The Hamlets, their 30-bedroom specialist nursing home for older adults with functional mental health needs.
Job Summary: Combat Isolation is a personalised service operating across Liverpool, Sefton, and Kirkby, supporting adults aged 50+ with functional mental illness who are experiencing loneliness and isolation, particularly due to the impact of Covid. The service focuses on building confidence and independence through one-to-one support, drop-in sessions, community activities, and volunteer befriending.
The Volunteer Coordinator plays a key role in recruiting, training, and supporting volunteer befrienders, managing the full process from application to client matching, while serving as the main point of contact for active volunteers. The ideal candidate will have experience in volunteer management, an understanding of mental health, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and uphold confidentiality and data protection standards.
