The Cormar Carpet Company is an award-winning, British, family-run business and has been making carpets since 1956 at our two mills in Lancashire. We make and deliver our carpets from our distribution sites in Hemel Hempstead and Bury to over 3,000 Cormar retailers across the UK and Ireland, using our own fleet of vehicles. We have won over fifty carpet and flooring industry awards, including being voted "Best Carpet Manufacturer 2023" by readers of Interiors Monthly and award winners of F1 "Carpet Supplier of The Year" for 14 consecutive years.

Job purpose: To manage the operation delivering high customer service levels with overall responsibility for team success by agreeing, implementing and monitoring individual and team objectives and targets, ensuring departmental and wider company policies and procedures are adhered to, delivering a high level of Service, Cost and Quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor team performance and activity to deliver organisation and department goals
  • Produce and report on agreed KPI's, ensuring these are achieved
  • Check and monitor departmental invoices and costs
  • Work with HR and take responsibility for departmental HR related tasks (such as time & attendance system, complete absence documentation, first line investigations and disciplinaries, recruitment, inductions, training)
  • Plan the development of the team and ensure training requirements are met so there is an appropriate skill base and maintain skill matrices
  • Work with the SHEQ team to ensure the department adheres to legislative requirements, implementing a H&S culture, ensuring the safety of the team and others
  • Maintain agreed house-keeping standards
  • Review and modify SOP's / business processes to ensure they are clearly defined and used as a standard framework to deliver key business drivers and ensure targets and goals are published, maintained and improved upon
  • Identify new initiatives that enhance the operation and add value, whilst identifying cost reduction initiatives
  • Introduce clear and robust processes that continuously improve the operational team whilst working towards implementation of a "right first time" culture.
  • Develop the team culture through use of continuous improvement projects

Ideal Skills / Qualifications:

  • Proactive in seeking improvements in process/methods of operating
  • Ability to make effective decisions from data available and proactively problem solve
  • An in-depth knowledge of how the department works and how it fits in with the rest of the organisation
  • Ability to cope under pressure
  • Ability to plan and organise tasks and guide others in the satisfactory completion of tasks

Hours: 40 hours per week: Sunday - Thursday, 10pm-6am

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary: £60,049.92, including night shift allowance
  • Benefits: Discretionary annual bonus, 31 days holiday, including bank holidays, increasing to 35 days after 5 years service, Healthcare scheme and pension (company matches employees contribution up to 10%) after 3 months service, Private medical after 12 months service
