Camden is building a place where everyone can thrive by making our borough the best place to live, work, study and visit. We are not only home to one of the UK’s fast-growing economies but also to some of the most important conversations taking place today. We are turning radical social change into reality so that nobody is left behind. This is where you can help shape a better future for us all.
Chief Officer Support, within the Business Support service, provides professional and dedicated support to Camden’s Chief Officers and oversees the effective running of the five directorates. The Executive Business Manager leads and manages a team of Personal Assistants and provides tailored business management support to Executive Directors across the directorate.
What You’ll Be Doing / How You’ll Be Involved
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Chief Officer Support as an Executive Business Manager (EBM), working either in the Investment, Place and Opportunity Directorate or the Adults and Health Directorate. This role is central to ensuring senior leadership teams are fully supported to deliver Camden’s strategic priorities and drive high-quality services for our residents.
You will act as Head of Office for the Directorate’s Executive Director, providing proactive, strategic and well-organised support. This includes horizon scanning, commissioning and quality-assuring briefings, monitoring priorities, and ensuring the Executive Director is well prepared for all internal and external commitments. You will build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders across the council and partner organisations.
A key part of the role will be leading, developing and managing the Directorate’s Chief Officer Support team, including direct management of Personal Assistants. You will ensure the smooth running of the Executive Director’s office, deliver high-quality business support and coordinate effectively across the wider Chief Officer Support and EBM community. You will also work collaboratively with Executive Business Managers across Camden to ensure consistency, shared learning and a joined-up approach to supporting the Council’s Chief Officer Group.
This is a demanding role that requires flexibility, sound judgement, the ability to manage sensitive information and to balance competing priorities at pace. You will need to be adaptable, resilient and solution focused, with strong communication and leadership skills.
We operate a hybrid working model, with work carried out both from home and across Camden buildings. Your primary office location will be 5 Pancras Square in King’s Cross.
You will need to have the ability to communicate and negotiate with confidence at high level discussions, understanding the bigger picture and strategic direction of the Council.
Previous experience of:
- Supporting Senior management level or providing quality Business Management support.
- Collaborating at senior management level including elected councillors.
- People management, coaching, performance management and experience of leading a team.
- Working in an empowered environment, making judgement calls on behalf of Chief Officers.
- Working in a Local government environment.
