Join Richmond and Wandsworth’s Mental Health Social Care Teams and Mental Health Reviews Team as a Social Worker and make a meaningful impact in the lives of residents of Wandsworth. The Mental Health service is responsible for assessing and reviewing social care needs and safeguarding enquiries under the Care Act 2014 and the Mental Health Act. This includes creating person-centred, strengths-based support plans, undertaking carers assessments and capacity assessments.

The mental health service of Richmond and Wandsworth Councils supports both boroughs. This role will be based in Wandsworth supporting residents within the borough.

As a Mental Health Social Worker, you will:

  • Provide a duty function/front door service, offering signposting, advice, screening, and risk assessments.
  • Conduct assessments under the Care Act, developing strength-based support plans to promote independence.
  • Manage complex cases, complete initial care reviews, and ensure proportionate support.
  • Lead safeguarding adults statutory duties, including screening concerns and conducting Section 42 inquiries.
  • Collaborate with health services, housing teams, the voluntary sector, and other key partners.
  • Carry out carers’ assessments and build strong working relationships with families and caregivers.
  • Facilitate mental capacity assessments, best interest meetings, and Court of Protection applications.
  • Prepare social circumstances reports and attend tribunals to advocate for individuals.

What We’re Looking For:

We seek motivated and compassionate social workers with expertise in mental health and safeguarding. You should have experience in case management, risk assessment, and multi-agency collaboration. Strong knowledge of legal frameworks and person-centred practice is essential. We are looking for Social Workers post ASYE completion with one year post qualifying experience in a statutory setting.

This is a hybrid working role; you will be required to work in the Council offices and at home.
