To train as a mechanical engineering apprentice technician; to undertake a structured training program of academic study and workshop practical phase tests in order to gain the required skills and knowledge to support the company’s future machining requirements of a world-leading sub-sea valve manufacturer.
Key Accountabilities
- Observing, learning and understanding a wide range of engineering skills and processes while under the instruction of skilled technical staff.
- To be able to demonstrate these skills and processes as the training period progresses by working independently, increasing your overall contribution to the department.
- Learning and understanding the importance of Health and safety within the workplace and your role in achieving this.
- To maintain a logbook over the duration of the apprenticeship period, recording projects that have been undertaken and the skills learned.
- To develop the skills to manufacture components from work instructions and drawings, achieving the necessary precision & quality requirements which will enable the part to be used by the company within its product range.
- To undertake and successfully complete the NVQ units and Work Book Assessment Targets in line with the framework and timescales set out by the training authority (i.e. Gloucestershire Engineering Training).
- Throughout the training period, achieving the academic grades and practical skills in order to entitle yearly progression leading to the award of a suitable level qualification in mechanical engineering.
- To learn how to maintain workshop equipment and to keep it in good repair in line with our 5S & Safety working standards.
- To maintain and to ensure general good housekeeping of the workplace and machine tools in line with our 5S & Safety working standards.
- To maintain a smart appearance and to act in a professional manner at all times while at work or at a training facility used by us.
- To perform any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the post holder.
First year training at GET, Unit 2.7 Barnwood Point, Corinium Avenue, Barnwood, Gloucester GL4 3HX. Thereafter based at LB Bentley Ltd, Kingfisher Business Park, London Road, Stroud, Gloucestershire GL5 2BY.
