The role
The Hygiene Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining and continuously improving hygiene standards across all production and operational areas. The position ensures compliance with food safety, health and safety, and quality standards while supporting certification, regulatory, customer, and brand requirements. The role contributes directly to Lazy Day Foods’ commitment to producing safe, high‑quality products in a clean and well‑maintained environment.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure all hygiene operations are carried out effectively and maintained to the required company, customer, and regulatory standards.
- Plan and deliver cleaning schedules that align with production requirements and audit standards (e.g., BRCGS, GMP).
- Carry out hygiene risk assessments to establish and review the frequency and scope of cleaning activities, ensuring they are appropriate for the risks associated with each area, process, and piece of equipment.
- Manage the hygiene budget and oversee procurement, storage, and use of hygiene consumables and chemicals, ensuring COSHH compliance and safe handling procedures.
- Liaise with external providers, including laundry and pest control contractors, ensuring services meet contractual and hygiene expectations.
- Manage hygiene‑related facilities such as washrooms and staff welfare areas, ensuring supplies and equipment are maintained.
- Oversee waste segregation, handling, and disposal practices to maintain hygiene and environmental standards.
- Plan staffing levels and allocate tasks effectively to meet business and hygiene requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant Food Safety Regulations and company standards.
- Ensure cleaning procedures effectively prevent allergen cross‑contamination and that allergen change‑overs are verified prior to production restarts.
- Participate in internal hygiene and GMP audits and follow up on actions to ensure timely closure.
- Communicate clearly with all employees, contractors, and visitors regarding site safety and hygiene standards.
- Actively participate in accident or incident investigations related to hygiene or chemical handling, ensuring learnings are communicated and applied.

- Proven experience in a hygiene supervisory or management role, preferably in food manufacturing or a related environment.
- Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of Food Safety, HACCP, COSHH, and Health & Safety Regulations.
- High attention to detail, analytical mindset, and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Ability to interpret data, audits, and risk assessments to make informed hygiene decisions.
