We have partnered with a leading global bank looking to hire a Senior European Economist (VP) to join a highly respected sell-side European Economics team based in London. This is a key hire into an already well-established team, and the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering in-depth analysis and thought leadership on Eurozone-wide themes, with a focus on core economies. The role offers significant breadth, including the potential for ownership of country-specific coverage (e.g. Germany), management of junior economists, and extensive collaboration across the bank’s global macro platform.
The ideal candidate will have a strong quantitative background and bring deep expertise in Eurozone economics, while having the ability to quickly add value through modeling and forecasting expertise. Our client has an excellent working culture, offering flexible working 1-2 days per week, as well as the opportunity to work as part of a highly respected sell-side team.
Key Responsibilities- Provide in-depth macroeconomic analysis of Eurozone-wide themes with a focus on core economies
- Take ownership of specific country coverage (e.g. Germany, France) where required
- Build, develop, and maintain medium-term structural or semi-structural growth models (as opposed to short-term nowcasting models)
- Use econometric software (e.g. EViews) and preferably Python or R for quantitative analysis and modelling
- Contribute to the team’s published research and analysis, ensuring timely and insightful views are delivered to clients and internal stakeholders
- Engage with Sales & Trading, global macro strategy, and other teams to share insights and collaborate on cross-market themes
- Manage and mentor 1-2 junior economists, with flexibility depending on the candidate’s interest and experience
- Participate in high-level client interactions and global team integration efforts; willingness to engage in media or client-facing responsibilities is welcomed but not essential from day one
- 5–10+ years of relevant European economics experience, ideally covering core Eurozone economies in a sell-side, central bank, independent research, buy-side, or academic environment
- Strong quantitative and modelling skills, with hands-on experience using econometric tools (EViews essential, Python/R highly desirable)
- Deep understanding of Eurozone macroeconomic fundamentals and key drivers
- Experience building medium-term or structural growth models highly desirable
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work closely with internal stakeholders and contribute to team-oriented projects
- Comfortable engaging with clients and senior stakeholders, though immediate media experience is not a requirement
- Previous management experience is beneficial but not essential
