We have exclusively partnered with a leading global bank looking to hire a Senior QIS Strategist into a highly respected team within their Global Markets research franchise. We know this client and team extremely well, having placed a number of senior people into the group over the years. Any candidate we speak with will receive a properly informed view of the opportunity from the very first conversation.
The role sits within Global Markets research, in a team focused on cross-asset and macro quant strategy. It is a model-driven, collaborative group, built around macro quant strategists & researchers across FX, rates, equities and commodities, a cross-asset volatility strategist, and a pool of analysts and developers building models and a growing digital and data offering for clients. Importantly, this is a research seat. It sits apart from the QIS trading business (structuring, product and sales) but works hand in hand with it. The independence of the research is what makes the seat commercially powerful.
You will own systematic strategies (QIS) as a research product, looked at through a markets lens rather than a modelling or structuring one. Put simply, you are the person who can tell the largest institutional clients in the world which QIS strategies should perform, why, and whether that edge will last, all on the record and in published research. You work within the house tactical asset allocation view, owned collectively across the team, and translate it into the sharpest QIS expression. The value you add is not the macro call itself. It is the depth of QIS knowledge to express that view better than anyone else in the room.
Key Responsibilities:
- Producing a monthly QIS chartbook of strategy analytics
- Writing and publishing trade idea notes whenever there is a strong QIS idea
- Delivering multiple major thematic research pieces a year
- Marketing to clients, with around 250 client conversations a year as the benchmark
- Working closely with the Head of QIS and QIS sales to ensure your research reflects what clients are actually asking about
- Around three weeks of travel a year, typically one or two US trips and one to Asia
One thing that makes this seat effective: You are the independent research voice in the room and not the sales person. In this seat, you get clients talking, and you are trusted precisely because you are not selling.
Key Requirements:
- Broad QIS expertise across strategies and asset classes: carry, momentum, value, defensive, across FX, rates, equities, credit and commodities. Not a narrow specialist
- Comfort working within a TAA framework, translating an agreed cross-asset view into QIS, rather than running your own independent macro line
- Commercial, client-facing strength, and real credibility in front of the largest institutional investors
- Director-level seniority, able to hold peer relationships with the Head of QIS and QIS sales leadership
- High energy and mobility, happy to sustain a heavy publication and travel cadence
- QIS portfolio construction depth, how QIS behaves inside a portfolio and across risk regimes
- Buy-side experience in ARP or systematic strategies before a move to the sell side
Key Selling Points:
- This is a rare seat, given true cross-asset QIS strategy roles typically sit in sell-side research (and because most QIS roles sit in structuring or product)
- A clear growth mandate with real senior sponsorship. The seat is backed by the Head of QIS and QIS sales leadership, approved at Director level (or senior VP for the right profile), and central to a push to win and grow the very largest client accounts on the street
- Exceptional access. Around 250 conversations a year with the most sophisticated allocators in the world: major pension schemes, sovereigns, Australian supers, and large asset managers across Europe, US, and Asia
- A platform that believes in QIS. Rather than defending QIS to a sceptical investment committee, this is a house fully committed to building and selling it
- A strong, growing franchise with clear white space at the top end, and an established publication platform to build on
- Your name on the research, direct relationships with senior business heads, and a clear path to building your own franchise with tier-one clients
