We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for a 6 month contract based in Sunbury on Thames. Salary DOE.

It is essential that applicants meet the below criteria:

  • Minimum of 2 years design experience in a CAD centric environment
  • Basic Pneumatics experience (preferred)
  • Experience with PDM or similar system
  • Ability to extract data from various sources to create a SSOT (single source of truth)
  • High level of excel competency
  • Excellent 3D CAD ability (ideally SolidWorks), robust modelling techniques and collaboration in a multi-user environment.
  • High Bill of Materials accuracy, supporting accurate product costing
  • Experience with CADLink or similar software
  • Passion for accurate 3D models to be converted into BOMs
  • Understanding of lean production
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to communicate and present technical information at all levels, both report-based and verbal.
  • Experience of developing products for a variety of manufacturing processes, such as sheet metal fabrication, machining, and welding. (preferred)
  • Good technical ability, with understanding of mechanical interactions and solving from first principles.
  • Experience in design of products encompassing mechanical and electrical elements.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 (or similar) quality management systems.
  • Strong mechanical engineering background, with knowledge of supporting engineering disciplines.
  • Experience in developing products for use in hazardous environments (ATEX, IECEx), that are subject to the Machinery Directive.


Duties will include:

  • Manage BOMs (BOM Structure, EBOM, MBOM) for manufacture, assembly and servicing
  • Design of BOM structure for manufacture, assembly and servicing
  • Work alongside other engineering functions (such as Electronic Engineering) to ensure mechanical, electrical and pneumatic elements of each product are carefully integrated.
  • Work closely with the Operations and Quality teams to ensure a smooth transition of products and sub-systems into production.
  • Undertake and support Engineering Change Requests, promoting thorough documentation control and lessons learned.
  • Support the development of departmental processes, procedures and best practice.
  • Delivery of high-quality design solutions to meet delivery and budget expectations.
  • Ownership of processes to track progress and reporting
