Overall Purpose of Role: To manage and monitor the delivery of health and safety processes on live construction sites. To write and develop method statements, risk assessments (including fire, CoSHH, vibration and noise), construction phase plans and policy documents as required with guidance from the Head of H&S. The H&S Manager should be able to liaise with all levels of site personnel and the client teams and to work with them to deliver health and safety policy and procedures to the best possible standards. To advise and guide site personnel with regards to the implementation and delivery of the H&S Internal Management System and best practices.

Overall responsibilities:

  • To support the department by temporarily undertaking ad hoc duties as required.
  • To actively contribute towards enhancing performance management within the role or department.
  • To attend monthly H&S Department meetings.
  • Attend regular H&S review meetings.
  • Prepare and distribute health and safety alerts as required.
  • Assist with the ongoing maintenance of the H&S internal management system and maintaining certifications for ISO 9001 and 14001.
  • Deputise for the Head of H&S when required.
  • Keep up to date with relevant changes in legislation, regulations and industry requirements and best practice.
  • Write method statements and risk assessments where required.
  • Advising on a range of relevant specialised areas, eg. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, vibration, manual handling and occupational diseases.
  • To actively promote a positive health and safety culture.

Operational responsibilities:

  • Carry out H&S inspections and audits on a regular basis, or as directed, in order to monitor compliance with company procedures.
  • Assist the site teams with closing out issues that are identified during inspections or audits.
  • Ensure breaches in procedures or hazards are identified and flagged to the site teams and assist the site teams in correcting them.
  • Ensure the skills and knowledge of site staff is maintained by identifying where training or requalification is required in line with the company training matrix.
  • Monitoring and reporting on site activities during regular site visits.
  • Carry out or support the investigating and reporting of incidents, accidents or near misses ensuring essential information is gathered and recorded, root causes are identified, actions are recommended and carried out in order to prevent any re-occurrence.
  • Attend pre-start site surveys, project handover meetings and ongoing project meetings as required.

Collaborate with:

  • Liaise with clients or other stakeholders and attend meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with technical, quality and contracts departments to ensure procedures and manuals include all relevant H&S requirements.
  • Work with the Head of H&S to prepare H&S strategies and internal policies and assist with ensuring all project management staff are aware of company policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with client representatives, other stakeholders and sub-contractors in order to establish good working relationships with regards to the health, safety and environmental management of Lawtech sites.
  • Support site management in the production, review and implementation of project management plans, construction phase plans and project H&S documentation.
