The Trainee Quantity Surveyor will learn to manage and monitor the commercial aspects of delivery of assigned contracts to budget with support from the Quantity Surveyor (QS) on site and Commercial Managers. They will liaise with surveyors / senior surveyors as well as the finance, procurement and estimating teams in order to ensure delivery of budget and financial information.

Role Responsibilities

  • To learn how to manage and monitor the assigned project plan, associated budget, costs and contract terms, with support from surveyor / senior surveyor as appropriate.
  • Liaison with Surveyor / Senior Surveyor and Senior Project Manager.
  • Liaison with Financial Controller, Procurement Manager and Estimator.
  • Valuation of works and collation of associated documentation for inclusion in CVR, cash flow forecast and sales forecast.
  • Learn to monitor and manage orders, deliveries and invoicing of materials.
  • Learn to monitor and manage sub-contractor orders, approvals and payments.
  • Learn to manage valuations and associated documentation.
  • Gain familiarity with budget from Estimating department.
  • Learn the company’s in-house system, Project Probe, and how to add updates with relevant information.
  • Provide information to enable updating of sales forecast, cash flow forecast and CVR.
  • Attend site meetings as required.
  • Manage own workload and priorities.
  • Complete technical qualifications.
  • Provide assistance to all commercial and contract team members to ensure profit is maximised throughout the Project.

Skills And Qualifications

  • Technical – working towards industry qualification eg IOB, RICS or degree.
  • Strong interest and/or experience in the construction industry.
  • CSCS card – visitor’s card or as required by client.
  • DBS checked as required for specific sites.
  • Competent user MS Excel, MS Word, Microsoft Outlook email and calendars.
  • Competent user Project Probe (training provided for this company software).
