The Health and Safety Advisor reports to the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager. They manage, monitor and deliver health and safety procedures on site, write method statements, risk assessments (fire risk, COSHH, vibration, noise), construction phase plans and policy documents, and advise site personnel on H&S implementation. They liaise with all work levels and stakeholders to prepare and review risk assessments and deliver H&S policy and procedures.

Role Responsibilities

  • Ensure site staff skills and knowledge are maintained, identifying training or requalification needs.
  • Monitor and report on site activities during regular visits.
  • Liaise with clients and other stakeholders, attending meetings as required.
  • Support investigation and reporting of incidents to identify root causes and recommend actions.
  • Prepare and distribute regular health and safety alerts.
  • Collaborate with technical, quality and contracts departments to incorporate H&S requirements into procedures and manuals.
  • Assist in maintaining the H&S internal management system and ISO 9001/14001 certifications.
  • Deputise for the H&S Manager when required.
  • Attend pre‑start site surveys, project handover meetings and ongoing project meetings.
  • Attend regular H&S review meetings.
  • Collaborate with the H&S Manager to prepare strategies and internal policies, ensuring staff awareness.
  • Conduct H&S inspections and audits to monitor compliance.
  • Assist site teams with closing out issues identified during inspections or audits.
  • Identify, correct, and flag breaches and hazards to the site team.
  • Record and report incidents, accidents and near misses per company procedures.
  • Stay current with legislation, regulations and industry best practice.
  • Write method statements and risk assessments when required.
  • Support site management in producing, reviewing and implementing project H&S documentation.
  • Establish good working relationships with client representatives, stakeholders and sub‑contractors regarding health, safety and environmental management.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Good working knowledge and experience of ISO 9001 and 14001.
  • Detailed knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Working knowledge of major health and safety legislation (Work at Height Regulations 2005, TG20-21, SG4 NASC).
  • Experience with SSIP schemes and maintaining company accreditations.
  • Experience delivering training and presentations.
  • IOSH membership (preferable).
  • NEBOSH Certificate in Construction.
  • NEBOSH Fire Certificate is advantageous but not essential.
  • NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent / GradIOSH advantageous but not essential.
  • Good understanding and experience of the construction and insulation industry.
  • CSCS card.
  • Competent user of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Knowledge/use of iAuditor software advantageous but not essential.
