Yard Operative Job Opportunity

We are currently seeking a diligent and motivated individual to join our team in Coulsdon as a Yard Operative. This is an exciting opportunity to play a crucial role in ensuring our yard operations run safely, smoothly, and efficiently within a reputable builders’ merchant environment.

Location – Coulsdon Branch

Address: Woodcote Grove Rd, Coulsdon, CR5 2AG.

Working Hours

This is a full-time yard operative position, working Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 17:00, and every other Saturday from 08:00 to 12:00, totalling 44.5 hours each week.

Main Responsibilities – Yard Operative

  • Safely load and unload vehicles, ensuring all products are handled with care
  • Pick and prepare building materials, timber, and fencing for customer and trade orders accurately
  • Maintain high standards of tidiness, organisation, and presentation throughout the yard and warehouse areas
  • Assist customers in the yard, providing courteous and knowledgeable service at all times
  • Support goods-in and stock control processes, helping to maintain correct inventory levels
  • Operate forklifts and other relevant equipment (training can be provided if necessary)
  • Monitor and maintain health and safety standards in the yard, reporting any concerns promptly
  • Uphold company procedures, promoting professionalism, and a positive safety culture
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth daily branch operations
  • Complete other general yard and warehouse duties as required

Person Specification – Yard Operative

  • Previous experience within a yard, warehouse, or builders’ merchant environment is preferred.
  • Customer-focused approach with a friendly, helpful attitude
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Strong commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, tidiness, and efficiency
  • Physically fit and able to safely undertake manual handling duties
  • Willingness to work as part of a close-knit team and assist colleagues across different departments
  • Excellent attention to detail and good organisational skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and proactive work ethic
  • Valid forklift (FLT) licence is advantageous, but not essential, as training can be provided
