Shop Assistant Role Overview β Customer Service and Retail Support
As a Shop Assistant at Briants of Risborough, you will be a core member of our shop team, ensuring all customers β both trade and retail β receive outstanding service from the moment they step inside the branch. Main Responsibilities for Shop Assistant β Retail Sales and Customer Interaction
- Deliver a friendly and helpful service at the shop counter, engaging with a variety of customers and supporting their needs.
- Handle product enquiries, recommend appropriate items, and provide advice on building and landscaping solutions.
- Efficiently process cash and card transactions, issue receipts, and maintain accurate till records.
- Ensure the shop floor and displays are well stocked, tidily merchandised, and all products are clearly labelled and priced.
- Respond promptly and courteously to all telephone and in-person enquiries.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues in the shop and yard to ensure seamless customer service and stock availability.
- Assist in the receipt, checking, and shelving of deliveries to the shop area.
- Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness and health & safety in all customer and staff areas.
- Monitor stock levels, report low or out-of-stock items, and assist with regular stock counts and audits as required.
- Report any customer feedback, issues, or shop maintenance needs promptly to the Shop Supervisor or Branch Manager.
- Promote additional products and special offers to customers to maximise sales opportunities.

Hours, Salary, and Benefits
- Full-time, permanent position.
- Typical working hours: Monday to Friday 07:30β17:00, every second Saturday 08:00β12:00 (44.5 hours per week).
- Salary: Β£30,000 - Β£35,000, dependent on experience.
- 25 days holiday per year, plus bank holidays and one celebration day.
