Role Overview
We are recruiting a Telesales / Counter Sales adviser to join our Peterborough branch. This is a customer-facing, sales-focused role responsible for handling incoming and outbound calls, processing counter sales, providing product advice, and supporting the branch team to deliver excellent customer service and achieve sales targets.
Working hours
Full time, permanent position. Typical hours will be Monday to Friday with 1 in 2 Saturday mornings 08.00 - 12.00. Exact hours to be discussed at interview.

Main Responsibilities
- Handle incoming customer enquiries by telephone and at the branch counter, providing professional, helpful and timely responses.
- Make outbound calls to follow up leads, process orders, obtain delivery information and drive repeat business.
- Process counter sales accurately, including taking payments, preparing goods for collection and maintaining customer records.
- Provide product information and advice across the company’s range, supporting customers to select appropriate materials and accessories.
- Work closely with yard and delivery colleagues to coordinate customer collections and deliveries, ensuring accurate paperwork and timely service.
- Maintain and update customer accounts and sales orders using company systems and handheld devices where applicable.
- Achieve individual and branch sales targets by identifying opportunities to up-sell and cross-sell products and services.
- Ensure the counter and branch area is well presented, stocked and compliant with health and safety requirements.
- Report customer feedback, incidents or complaints in line with company procedures and work to resolve issues promptly.
- Support branch colleagues with ad-hoc tasks during quieter periods to ensure smooth branch operation.
Qualifications And Skills
- Previous telesales, counter sales or retail/customer service experience, preferably within builders’ merchants, timber, landscaping or related sectors.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with a customer-focused approach.
- Good numeracy and IT literacy, comfortable using telephone systems, stock systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure, prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
- Organised, reliable and able to work as part of a team while using initiative when required.
- Full UK driving licence is desirable but not essential.
- Basic product knowledge or willingness to learn about timber, fencing and building materials.
