We are recruiting an HGV Grab Driver to join our Bury Hill Landscape Supplies branch. This is a field-based, customer-facing role responsible for safely operating an HGV with grab to deliver materials to customers, load and unload on site, and represent Bury Hill professionally. The successful candidate will be reliable, safety-conscious and able to deliver excellent service while maintaining vehicle and equipment standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate HGV grab vehicle to deliver and collect materials to customers’ sites, ensuring safe loading, unloading and placement of our own Loose & Bagged products.
- Carry out pre- and post-trip vehicle checks, report defects promptly and ensure vehicle paperwork is completed accurately.
- Load and secure vehicle loads in accordance with statutory and company guidelines, using grab and manual handling techniques as required.
- Deliver high standards of customer service on-site, communicating professionally with customers and representing the branch positively.
- Work with yard and branch colleagues to co-ordinate delivery schedules, report late or failed deliveries and assist with route planning where necessary.
- Maintain accurate delivery records, collect signatures and proof of delivery, and update branch systems with delivery notes and any discrepancies.
- Adhere to company health and safety policies, complete required risk assessments, follow safe working procedures and use PPE at all times.
- Assist with basic yard duties during quieter periods, including stock handling, tidying and supporting colleagues with manual tasks.
- Ensure cleanliness and basic maintenance of the vehicle and grab equipment, reporting faults and arranging for servicing as required.
Person Specification
- Valid UK HGV Class 2 (Category C) licence with current Driver Qualification Card (CPC) and digital tachograph card (essential).
- Must hold a Valid Clamshell crane certificate.
- Proven experience operating an HGV with a hydraulic grab or similar lifting equipment, ideally in builders’ merchants, landscaping or construction sectors.
- Good knowledge of vehicle safety checks, load security and safe manual handling techniques.
- Excellent customer service skills with a professional, courteous approach and clear communication.
- Able to work independently, manage time effectively and adapt to changing priorities and schedules.
- Physically fit and able to undertake manual handling and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- IT literate to the extent of using mobile devices for delivery confirmation and basic branch systems.
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and willingness to follow company procedures and training.
- Team player who works collaboratively with yard, branch and transport colleagues to achieve safe and efficient service delivery.
Working Hours, Salary and Benefits
- Full-time, permanent position based at our Bury Hill branch.
- Typical flexible contracted hours are Monday to Friday 07.30 - 16.30 with additional daily hours and Saturday mornings on an Overtime basis.
- Competitive salary of £34,320 + Overtime paid in line with company policy (this includes extra daily hours + Saturday mornings).
- 25 days holiday per year plus bank holidays, rising with service in line with company policy.
