HGV Class 2 Hiab – Camden
As an HGV Class 2 Hiab driver at Lawsons Camden, you will be responsible for the safe operation of a Class 2 vehicle and Hiab crane to deliver and offload timber, fencing and building materials to customers across the local delivery area. This is a hands‑on role requiring strong driving skills, a safety‑first approach, excellent customer service and the ability to handle and secure loads professionally. You will work closely with the branch team to ensure punctual, damage‑free deliveries and support yard activities when required.
Main Responsibilities – HGV Class 2 Hiab
- Operate a Class 2 HGV with Hiab crane to transport and safely offload timber, fencing and building materials to customer sites, following company procedures and customer instructions.
- Load and secure loads safely at the branch, using appropriate restraints and ensuring compliance with Weight & Dimensions regulations and manual handling best practice.
- Use the Hiab crane to position and place materials accurately, ensuring safe operation of lifting equipment in line with training and current legislation.
- Provide professional, courteous customer service on site, representing Lawsons with respect and care, and ensuring customers’ requirements are met.
- Carry out routine vehicle checks, report any defects and ensure the vehicle and equipment are maintained in a safe, roadworthy condition.
- Complete accurate delivery paperwork, electronic records and timesheets in line with company systems and policies.
- Follow Health & Safety procedures, report incidents and near misses promptly, and contribute to a positive safety culture across the branch.
- Assist with yard duties and stock handling at the branch when not on delivery, including loading, checking deliveries and maintaining an organised yard.
Essential Skills, Qualities & Experience
- HGV Class 2 (Category C) driving licence with valid Driver Qualification Card (CPC) and current digital tachograph card.
- Proven experience within a builders’ merchant operating a Hiab/crane on an HGV and holding relevant certification for Hiab or evidence of safe operating experience.
- Valid CPC and a clean, safe driving record; experience of multi‑drop deliveries is preferred.
- Good practical knowledge of load restraint, manual handling and health & safety requirements in driving and site environments.
- Customer‑focused, professional and polite with strong communication skills and the ability to represent the company on customer sites.
- Physically able to carry out manual handling and site duties in varied weather conditions.
- Organised, reliable and punctual with a flexible approach to duties and working patterns to meet operational needs.
Working Hours, Pay and Benefits
- Full‑time, permanent role – 44.5 hours per week. Working hours typically between 06:00 and 18:00 depending on delivery schedules, plus 1 in 2 Saturdays working 08:00 -12:00.
- Competitive salary of £42,000
- Generous holiday entitlement: 25 days’ annual leave plus 8 bank holidays and 1 celebration day.
