We are recruiting a Branch Supervisor to join our Landscape Centre team. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role responsible for overseeing day-to-day branch operations, leading a small team, ensuring excellent customer service and maintaining a safe, organised and commercially successful branch environment. The successful candidate will be a practical, reliable and customer-focused supervisor who can balance operational duties with people management and commercial responsibilities.

Main Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support branch colleagues, providing clear direction, coaching and development to ensure high standards of service, productivity and safety.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to trade and retail customers, handling enquiries, resolving issues and supporting sales activities to maximise branch performance.
  • Oversee daily yard and shop operations including loading/unloading, order fulfilment, stock presentation and customer collections to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Manage stock control activities, including stock checks, rotation, reporting discrepancies and assisting with stock replenishment and merchandising.
  • Assist with planning and co‑ordinating deliveries, liaising with drivers, transport and other branches to ensure timely and safe fulfilment of customer orders.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and site procedures; complete risk assessments, report hazards and promote safe working practices across the branch.
  • Maintain branch presentation and housekeeping standards, ensuring materials are stored safely, labelled and accessible for customers and colleagues.
  • Carry out basic administrative tasks including processing sales transactions, updating branch systems, recording returns and preparing paperwork for deliveries and collections.
  • Support the Branch Manager with rota planning, stock ordering and local commercial initiatives; deputise in the manager’s absence as required.
  • Operate branch equipment (e.g. forklift, telehandler) if trained and authorised, following all safety procedures and site rules.

Person Specification

  • Previous experience in a supervisory or senior operative role within builders’ merchants, landscaping, timber or related sectors is essential.
  • Strong customer service skills with a professional, friendly and solution‑focused approach.
  • Good practical skills and physically capable of handling materials and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Proven ability to lead a small team, coach colleagues and maintain high standards of performance and conduct.
  • Organised with good attention to detail, able to manage competing priorities and keep accurate records.
  • Basic numeracy and IT literacy, comfortable using handheld devices and branch systems for stock and sales tasks.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe manual handling techniques with a commitment to promote safe working practices.
  • Full UK driving licence desirable but not essential; willingness to undertake training and obtain relevant licences (e.g. forklift/telehandler) where required.
  • Reliable, flexible and able to work occasional weekends or adjusted hours to support branch needs.

Working Hours, Salary and Benefits

  • Full-time, permanent position based at our Landscape Centre branch.
  • Typical hours: Monday to Friday with 1 in 2 Saturday mornings 08.00 - 12.00; exact hours to be agreed with the branch manager.
  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience (£32,000 - £35,000).
  • 25 days’ holiday per year plus.
