Role Overview

We are recruiting a Telesales / Counter Sales team member to join our Oxford Fencing Supplies branch. This is a customer-facing sales role combining telephone-based order-taking and face-to-face counter service. The role involves responding to customer enquiries, processing orders accurately, promoting products and supporting branch operations to ensure a positive customer experience.

Working hours

Full time, permanent position. Typical hours will be Monday to Friday 07.30 - 17.00 with 1 in 2 Saturday mornings working 08.00 - 12.00.

Main Responsibilities

  • Answer inbound telesales enquiries promptly and professionally, providing product information, pricing and availability.
  • Process telephone and counter orders accurately using the company sales systems, ensuring correct documentation and payment handling.
  • Deliver an excellent counter sales service to visiting customers, handling collections, providing product advice and resolving queries.
  • Proactively promote relevant products, services and promotions to maximise sales and meet branch targets.
  • Liaise with the yard and delivery teams to coordinate customer collections and deliveries, ensuring orders are ready and accurate.
  • Maintain up-to-date product and price knowledge, escalating special requirements or stock shortages to the branch manager.
  • Ensure accurate cash handling and card payment procedures are followed and assist with daily reconciliations where required.
  • Keep the counter area tidy and presentable, restocking brochures and sample displays as needed.
  • Record customer interactions and feedback in the CRM/system and support follow-up communications as directed.

Qualifications And Skills

  • Previous telesales, counter sales experience is essential, ideally within builders’ merchants, timber, landscaping or related sectors.
  • Excellent telephone manner and strong customer service skills with the ability to build rapport quickly.
  • Good numeracy and IT literacy, comfortable using telephone systems, tills, handheld devices and company systems.
  • Organised and accurate with strong attention to detail when processing orders and handling payments.
  • Confident communicator, both written and verbal, with the ability to work well within a team and independently when required.
  • Flexible and reliable with a positive, proactive approach to work and willingness to work occasional Saturdays.
  • Full UK driving licence desirable but not essential.
